I was recently appointed by Speaker Joanna McClinton to two important positions on the Judiciary Committee, so I thought I’d send a quick message on some of the work we’ve been doing and how that ties into our local court system.
The Judiciary Committee is one of the most active and it oversees all changes to our legal system – from criminal to civil law, Family Court to Orphan’s Court, and everything in between. Our work directly impacts issues like the training requirements for district judges and how we care for children in dependency and delinquency. I was honored to be named Vice Chair of this committee.
I was also appointed Chair of the Subcommittee on Crime and Corrections, where we look at the intersection of public health and our criminal system, the value of deterrence, and how to best care for people who are incarcerated.
This work is aimed at creating a judicial system that reflects accountability, but also fairness. And when both of those things are done in a manner that respects everyone’s rights our courts function at their best.
I very much appreciate the faith Speaker McClinton and Judiciary Chair Briggs placed in me by naming me to these important Judiciary assignments. I look forward to applying my years of courtroom experience as we work to create a more just and equitable legal system for all Pennsylvanians.
Mis mejores deseos,
