Miller, Fontana: $1.59 million grant to aid Castle Shannon streetscape project

MT. LEBANON, Feb. 8 – State Rep. Dan Miller, D-Mt. Lebanon, and state Sen. Wayne Fontana, D-Allegheny, today announced a Commonwealth Financing Authority grant of $1.59 million for Phase II of the Castle Shannon Streetscape Project, through the PennDOT Multimodal Transportation Fund.

Miller and Fontana said the project will provide handicapped access between three transit stations in Castle Shannon, along with improved access and safety to complement a new, 152-unit apartment building being built on an Allegheny Port Authority parking lot.

“I thank the CFA and the governor for making this investment in the 42nd Legislative District,” Miller said. “When we improve transportation access for the handicapped, we are in actuality making sure more of our friends and neighbors can take advantage of our public transportation system.”

Miller said he and Fontana were equally determined in support of the Castle Shannon grant application.

The Multimodal Transportation Fund provides grants to encourage economic development and ensure that a safe and reliable system of transportation is available to the residents of the commonwealth.

Funds may be used for the development, rehabilitation and enhancement of transportation assets to existing communities, such as streetscape, lighting, sidewalk enhancement, pedestrian safety, connectivity of transportation assets and transit-oriented development
