State Representative Dan Miller Announces Candidacy for Allegheny County Court of Common Pleas
PITTSBURGH, PA – Representative Dan Miller announced his candidacy for Allegheny County Court of Common Pleas at a press conference this morning on the steps of the City-County Building. He was joined by supporters Lieutenant Governor Austin Davis, County Executive Sara Innamorato, Pittsburgh City Councilmember Erika Strassburger, and Attorney Bill Goodrich, Past President of the PA Association for Justice (formerly the PA Trial Lawyers Association) and Executive Trustee of LAWPAC.
“Today, I’m announcing my candidacy for Allegheny County Court of Common Pleas. After 11 years arguing the law as a public defender and a county solicitor and 11 years writing laws in Harrisburg, I want to take that experience to the bench and apply the law in a just and fair manner,” said Miller.
Miller was elected to the House of Representatives in 2013 and has primarily served on the Judiciary, Labor, and Human Services committees where he focused on criminal justice, disability, mental health, and labor rights. He recently completed his term in House leadership as the Majority Whip.
A graduate of the Catholic University Columbus School of Law in 2002, Miller has written over 180 pieces of legislation and hosted numerous disability and mental health events. His effort as a leader in this field has brought awards from many in the disability advocacy community, including Achieva, Mental Health America, the Autism Connection, the Peal Center, Unique Source, the Pennsylvania School Counselors Association, Pittsburgh Local Task Force, and the Arc of Pennsylvania.
“Dan has always been a strong voice for those who need protection through the law and those who need understanding from the law, which makes him an exceptional choice to be judge,” said Pittsburgh City Councilmember Erika Strassburger, chair of the Vote Dan Miller campaign committee.
They were also joined by Campaign Kickoff Co-Chairs, County Executive Sara Innamorato and Lt. Governor Austin Davis, both of whom previously served with Miller in the state House.
“As County Executive, I care tremendously about disability and mental health issues, and few have advocated as strongly or as comprehensively on these issues as Dan Miller,” said Innamorato.
Lt. Gov. Austin Davis added, “I’m proud to support Dan in his campaign for Allegheny County Court of Common Pleas. His long record of public service is admirable and it shows exactly the breadth of experience and thoughtfulness that we need on the bench.”
Campaign chair Erika Strassburger also announced the first round of endorsements for Miller’s campaign, which include endorsements from 30 federal, state, and county elected officials. More endorsements will be announced shortly.
